Hello ... been missing you Blog!

Nearly June 2017! Almost 6 months from the last entry. But I am making a comeback (said that before didn't I?) and Coffee Girl is back! Didn't realize I miss writing again until I log in to this almost-dusty space.

To sum it up, been pretty busy since February with work stuffs. I thought I could catch a breath in between, apparently not. But it's not necessarily a bad thing, in fact I sort of expected them and thus was mentally prepared.

Got to make a short one today since I'm borrowing a bit of time to stall over an assignment. So here's what I had been up to this week: A short work-related trip down the currently underway Pan Borneo Highway via Sematan to Telok Melano.
With colleagues and peers at the Pan Borneo Highway...

And as for my little girl, she is now 2 years 5 months and has been diaper-free for the last 2 months! Wohoo! More on that later. Last week she had a high fever coupled with coughing and flu, all which made her rather clingy and cranky especially at nights. Whenever people asked me my secret to weight-loss (a bit only lah, all those post-baby fat), I would just answer 'lack of sleep' because I know my diet hasn't change all that much. Yup!

2yo Sasa having her breakfast...

It'll be June soon and a much-needed holiday is coming up! Will be back with more updates! Here's wishing all my Dayak friends and all those celebrating the upcoming festive! SELAMAT HARI GAWAI! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

And to all those looking forward to the upcoming Ramadhan month, SELAMAT BERPUASA!

December... my month of many celebrations!

Yes!! I turned a year older yesterday! A Year Wiser so the saying goes! Another number added to the 3 series. Yes I am getting very old! But wait for it...!! I celebrated in Penang! Why Penang? Because we just came back from Krabi - celebrating our 2nd Wedding Anniversary AND our lil one's 1 YEAR BIRTHDAY! Penang was the stop-over, the anticlimax after the sun and food in Krabi! So yes it's a 3-in-1 Holiday Package! And we just got home today! I'm still a little bit jetlagged (kononnya) cause we had an early flight! Of course everybody slept! But me, cause the lil one slept on me so I must stay alert to be her steady pillow!

December is my favorite month!! We get to do this every year I hope! I hope lah! If the finance permits! Oh Why am I shouting! Hahaha! Cause I'm still excited!! Ahahaha! *crazy old birthday lady*
No cake... A hot coffee to go is very generous enough... *sans makeup*

Sorry sorry, must be the adrenaline rush from the morning travel and lacking sleep.

Anywayyyyyyyyy... This is a short one okay, because I haven't been blogging much and none at all in December, but I'll be back! Stay tune for the Holiday Trip review for the best tom yam found in the unlikeliest place and best/worst hotels!

Meanwhile, if you don't hear from me again after today till New Year, here's us wishing you:
Have a blessed holiday everyone! Love you bye!

Lil one's adventure holidaaaaaaaay!

Ah... second post for the month of May on the second last day. No wait, this is the third post! We made it! Hehe.

Progressing at 3 months and 1 week along today has been an amazing journey. We made it to through the first trimester with flying colors! Well, we kinda cheated there a little bit since we only discovered baby otter's existence like on the 9th weeks... so yeah. Good job procrastinating on that test kit hah. I wondered how much coffee I consumed without knowing. I seriously don't encouraged stalling after you feel suspicious of symptoms and changes. Although in my case, there was some tiny bit of technicality that caused me to snuff out all hopes, but just when I was about to shrug it off, it turned the table on me and proved itself positive and persistent! Just like a fairy tale drama twist...

Google pix: Crazy about cute tiny knitwear like those...

Well thank God for tiny miracles. I don't know what I've done right in my past life to deserve it.

Anyway, while I'm a roll here...

Found myself hungry a lot quicker even after I just ate, but that I eat less portion compared to before. I also discovered that after I ate my fill, any other pictures of food (especially those of my favorites) will render me nauseous. So Instagram after meal time is a no-no. Strangely, my system seems to be accepting milk - which I used to gag on - like I've always drank it my whole life. Pretty awesome huh. And there's the frequent past midnight trips to the bathroom, but that one is normal or so I read somewhere.

It's such a tender feeling. One that keeps me close to my Creator for He brought and gifted this life to me to be responsible for. It's like, carrying another person makes me care for myself more. I used to be so carefree with whatever I eat, wherever I go, whatever I do... but now things have drastically changed and it's all for the better. My waist is expanding sideways... weird. I thought it should be bulging frontward. Haha.

Oh by the way, I'm a sucker for sambal kicap (Tong Nam brand) cili padi belacan gula to dip with any fruit, preferably asam. The taste for it just double-folds at this stage.

Spicy soy sauce dip & local mango...

Oh yes we have been busy being a lil cookie monster. Food adventures everywhere! This month alone, mah little otter has been on early adventures -- work related of course -- to scenic Sandakan of Sabah... where we had Earl Grey tea and thick English scones and strawberry jam under a shady tree at Agnes Keith Tea House... just like the English do ... And ikan bangus bakar!

 Sandakan...

... And then a week later, we flew to small oil town Bintulu for another weekend of duty...

 Bintulu...

... With all that movement, I think we deserve a little holiday ourselves, right? Soon -- about 4 days from now, we will be jetting off to these breathtaking destinations!

Goole Pix: Make a really wild guess where...

Talk about a loooong weekend! Wohooo!

Gawai Festival is two days away and the rest of that is the much much much awaited hoooooliiiidaaaayyyy! So here's to the holiday seasons folks!

SELAMAT HARI GAWAI!
SIRAMAT ANDU GAWAI!
AND
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The Year In Review: Personal Best Moments of 2013 & Welcoming The New Year!

CURTAIN CALL!!

It has been one amazing year for me, personally. While I don't want it to end, the book still has to be closed because the chapter is finished and today marks the last page. But let's not fret. Life must go on boldly forward because we have everything to live for in 2014!

Meanwhile...

A Recap of Best Personal Moments for 2013.

1. Spend the early parts of the year away from home organizing events a week apart from each other... A buildup to the General Election. One Division after another, and always coming home feeling drenched and in need of a good rest. But with awesome colleagues, anything is possible.

In the spirit of 1Malaysia la kan... against a potent choc brownies...

2. Breezed through the General Election 2013... because the hard and difficult parts have already been done earlier.

3. Met Zamani in person! ... From Slam. He has always been my favorite local talent since school days. *Sigh* I couldn't believe he got so skinny!

Zamani Slam: Kembali Terjalin...

4. And got a free hug from Ironman!... The adventures my job brings me everyday. No Thor, but this will do.

Superhero overload...

5. Recruited a new blood donor. If this is member get member program, I'd have a cool downline. :) Because it is my only unselfish passion so far. And now I don't have to do it alone or look for a friend to accompany me. My husband is now my special moral-support partner!

And our blood group is the same as well...

6. First Valentine's celebration with Mr Right. At home eating simple home cook food. And gifted with my first silver cross necklace! <3 I foresee many Valentine celebrations will be spent alone together at home after this.

To be worn close to my heart...

7. Ventured into Charms-making Business... Slowly and steadily, online and offline. This is another passion that I see should take off quite well, if only I have more time and focus. Tell you more about it later. Meanwhile for now, you may check www.eheartcharms.com

 Tranquility charms bracelet... from EHeartcharms.com

8. Cook more at home these days... because the guy I'm going out with loves home cook meals and especially Dayak food.

Sambal nenas (spicy pineapple in prawn paste)

9. Visited Limbang! At last... And now the only Division I have yet to step foot on is Kapit. Although I've been to Song a few times. Wait ah 2014...

For work, that is...

10. Ventured out of the country... to Phuket and Bali! To two countries at one time! -- Got my passport this year and well, ventured overseas for the first time. I know, I know... late bloomer and all. But two international island resorts in one go made up for it!

Phuket!

11. Got a surprise proposal! Every girl's dream, stuffs of fairy tale... to have a guy she loves go on one knee in public, open a beautiful tiny box and pop the question. What kind of girl could or even want to say No to that?  Oh you could also read about it HERE.

The precious props...

12. Went to Bangkok! ... an unplanned trip but an amazing journey nonetheless.

Met and had coffee with George Clooney at Madame Tussaud, Bangkok

13. Got properly and formerly affianced... with the families' blessings and approval. And then it is made official because the earlier one was more of a personal engagement.

Official engagement day...

14. Given an acoustic guitar by le fiance... An early birthday present, he said, 3 months away from the real birth date. The only guitar I ever had was given by my dad on my 18th birthday. It broke after I brought it back from college during my senior years. Some stuffs are to be cherished forever, more for the thoughts that count.

Rocking good times...

15. GOT MARRIED! To this amazing guy on Dec 14 2013! The same one who proposed to me. It was the most beautiful, most memorable, most exceptionally amazing time of my life. Walking down the aisle in daddy's arms in daddy's tiny country church, feeling like the most blessed and most beautiful bride in the world. The day we exchanged rings, vows, and got united in front of God and men. A truly special day in any girl's life.

Getting all dolled up, morning of the wedding...

16. Went for honeymoon right after... to the islands of the gods, Bali again! No words can describe my state of happiness at this point.

Lounging good times in Bali...

17. Celebrated Birthday Bali style! ... because we were already there. Got serenaded by one of the coolest local acoustic bands I've ever had the honour to watch.

 The birthday kiss!

18. First Christmas as a newly wedded couple. With both sides of the family.

19. Moving to our new marital house. Right after the honeymoon. :) So by New Year, I'd be a driving a distant more to work than usual.

20. About to spend New Year's Eve with awesome companies, awesome food, and awesome FIREWORKS display across the City!

So then, there it is. I may have missed a few milestones but that's ok. Next year I'll have a proper diary. In a rush now for the New Year's Eve get-together. Till then lovelies, here's wishing you...

A JOYOUS & BLESSED NEW YEAR 2014!
What doesn't kill us last year will only make us stronger this year!
Amen.

Wohoooooo! Release the fireworks!

Resolutions, anyone?

It's tough to live among the optimists.

These bunch always make a list of what they want to achieve every beginning of the year. In fact, they started talking about it way even before December of the previous year ends. And sometimes I can't help but poke fun at them for looking too far ahead when they're not even sure if they could achieve any of those endless list, let alone tick them one by one. And if you notice, some actually would recycle (if that's even possible) all the past unfulfilled wishes to the next year in the hope of trying to at least salvage some pride in attempting to fulfill them. Hard work, that.

Oh for sure, no offence to the optimists. In fact I hold you in highest regards (yes for real, that's no-oo, not sarcasm at all) because I was once one of you until sometimes it got too exhausting.

Ok get this: I'm not an optimist. Neither am I -- yes this is me speaking out loud the words from the back of my mind -- a pessimist. I am, if you can call it anything, is a daydreamer who lives the life of a realist. And being a mixed breed of a daydream believer stuck in reality, I too, have a list of things I want to see done or keep doing, not just this beginning of the year, but at all times, while I still breath, Mayan afflicted or not.

So, we don't play around with resolutions because that's what the optimists will do. And me, forever loving to procrastinate and all, do not like to be bogged down with wish list. Instead, here's a little reminder of what I should keep doing.

Note To Self:

#1. Hang On
The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground.

#2. Blog On
Easy reading is damn hard writing. But I have resolved to be consistent in posting.

#3. Keep Calm and Drink Coffee
Actually, this seems to be the basic need of the human heart in nearly every great crisis a good hot cup of coffee.

#4. Keep Dreaming
The best reason for having dreams is that in dreams no reasons are necessary.

#5. ...But Be Realistic
Everything you can imagine is real.

If none of these make sense, that's okay because at the end of the day, like every dreamer out there, I too want a homelier home, a better car, a fatter paycheck, a dream career, a new status, travel the world, be a millionaire. But in order to get that, don't we all need to first discover ourselves and what we truly want and what truly matter?

Hello 2013. How will you fare?

New Year 2013 coffee and love best wishes...

Going to see booms and bangs and pretty fireworks light up the sky in few hours. Hopefully while sipping a cup of hot coffee holding a warm hand in a not-crowded coffee place. It's tradition -- the fireworks part.

I shall get straight to business of writing this post, before I lose all ideas and time, which is to recount every significant (and significant enough) events of my life milestone in 2012.

One word: AMAZING.

Here's a RECAP of my journey -- all the awesome, the troublesome, the strange and the expected of all things happening.

1. Sang at my sister's wedding early in the year. The most calm I've ever been on stage with my guitar singing to anyone.
2. Been featured a few times under Sarawak Blog joint-project with New Sarawak Tribune. Flattered as hell to be read by some people out there cause I know there are many better writers out there.
3. Always wondered how it would feel like to meet in real life all the fellow bloggers that you've followed or who've followed you. Amazing feeling, that. Crossing that thin line between virtual and the real world, and know they still follow you after knowing who you are.
4. Fell in love with a fellow blogger. Unexpected, that. Miracles do happen, yes?
5. Been traveling a lot. A new place, a new experience everyday. And that constant feeling of always wanting to go home sooner vs those times when I actually looked forward to going away.
6. A year has passed since I've moved to my new home. My first property!
7. Paid my credit card debts, paid my car in full, and settled my personal loans. Now I live with only one fully-paid active credit card, and I can finally tell all those creditors to get off my back for a while.
8. Bought a smartphone with touchscreen just for the camera, against my better judgement. Absolutely best decision i've made so far.
9. Climbed Mount Kinabalu for the first time! Caught the most awesome sunrise from the peak.
10. Started a tweetup account, and although it isn's much of an achievement, it opened a few doors for me, and got me a few new and good friends too. Even attended and helped out (with minimal and backstage participation) in TwtUpKch2012, for the first time.
11. My wardrobe has never seen too many dresses! It's a year when Coffee Girl turns into more of a lady and less of a tomboy.
12. It has been an awesome year financially too, I must say, careerwise.

I had a few more good ones, but I cant seem to recall them right now. But that's alright now, didn't we almost have it all?

So before the year ends in another 2 hours, Coffee Girl would like to apologize for being less and less around in the blogging world. And for sometimes writing inarticulately and crapping a lot when she ran out of ideas. Thank you for reading me, following me, and didn't think less of me everytime anyway even after meeting me.

Meantime, here's me wishing you all a grand, blessed, prosperous, happening and awesome NEW YEAR 2013 ahead! Have yourself a cuppa for good luck.

I see you next year.

Love,
Coffee Girl

The birthday cum Christmas post ...

Ignore the lame title.

But hey, since the world didn't end when it was so called supposedly so, and since it's my blog, and forgetting the fact that this is only the second post for December, allow me to take a few minutes and a few lines to wish myself a happy birthday anniversary.

Ok, lame again.

Here celebrating ze besday at Tony Roma's with the best ribeye steak this side of the universe. Coffee Girl (the person behind the name, not the blog) is a year older yesterday on 22.12.12. Apparently the world didn't end, so ...

 The birthday dinner...

The point is I'm right now struggling to post an entry using my SGS3 for the first time and I can't deny how annoyed I am with touchscreens. But that's my problem, not the phone's.

Anyway before i lose all patience and sweetness, to all those celebrating the Yultide, here's wishing you all:

A happy merry blessed Christmas!

Food Review: Candlelight Dinner at The Peak, Pullman

I know, I know, this is an overdue post. But I'm still on time, I hope. Been preoccupied with running both career (or job) and own life simultaneously.

But hey, Christmas is coming! And if you're looking for a venue to hold that once-a-year Christmas family dinner or business talk over Christmas food, this offer is still valid.

Anyway, I had the privilege to attend this small gathering of media for a food review at The Peak, Pullman Hotel. The whole idea of dining by candlelight does make a girl feel a little romantic, most especially if you're on the 22nd Floor, overlooking the whole of Kuching City, with someone you cherish. :-) Nice feeling huh? and we're not even talking about the food yet!
The view at night is mesmerizing from The Peak, Pullman. Kuching is all bright lights beautiful after 7pm. How anyone could leave a city this breathtaking, for some other place away from home, is beyond me.
Anyway, the Christmas dinner was brisk, straightforward, and sweet. And I'm not just talking about the memory. Appetizers, desserts, main courses were all enticingly sugary I could easily develop a sweet tooth if I didn't have one already. I mean, look at this lovely candy confectionarised house, it's like a scene from the North Pole!

And the lovely chocolaty eclairs Christmas tree! Oh they're real eclairs, not just for decorations, so careful picking each one or you might bring down the tree. Ho ho ho.
Somehow nobody warned me how sweet these colourful array of macaroons could be, that I put a bunch in my plate but didn't finish half of them. This could go well with sugarless tea, but then I'm more of a coffee person...

Marshmallow candies anyone? Get a bunch of these for giveaways during Christmas Day open house, not a bad idea, hey?
And, the traditional sugary butter muffins. Now this would be perfect with coffee.
And for the main course -- a beautifully roasted turkey! Now, if you don't already know, I don't exactly have a good experience with turkey meat. But this one were surprisingly pretty nice ... tender, moist, and not blanch at all, as I had initially thought. Served with black pepper sauce with sweet stuffings and garnish on the side, it was without a doubt, the one and only time I enjoyed eating a roast turkey. Talk about! The only problem with it was it was too small for the bunch of us! Ha ha ha.

I think I pretty much mixed the appetizers with the desserts, but no matter. They could serve as both. Like this sweet rolls er... logs. I stuffed a few pieces of these babies in one go. They were that irresitible.
And what's a night without coffee, right? For that after-effect moment. The perfect closure to a good dinner.
The Christmast Eve and New Year's Eve Candlelight Dinner is priced at RM200++ per person. The view and the dining experience is expected to leave a lasting impression on you and your loved ones, that is, if you're as romantic as me. :-) There will also be unlimited serving of wines, chilled juices, sodas and hot beverage... although we weren't so lucky that night. Sigh...

For reservations and enquiries, drop by at Pullman’s Kuching festive desk today, or call +6 (0) 82 222 888 or email to H6332@accor.com.

Enjoy!

P/s: I'll be back with more updates soon people! Sorry I've been remiss, yet again. I know, I miss you guys too. :p

Raya holiday wishes ...

It's rush hour outside!

All those last minute Raya shopping, schools out of sessions, and those not exactly celebrating also crowding the malls and streets looking for best deals... and here I am wishing it's 5.30pm already so I could clock out and join the throng of those not celebrating but pretending we are.

So chill out my fellow bloggers, my silent readers and stalkers... take a breather and enjoy the holiday season. Go have fun! Visit those open houses! Eat, drink and be merry!

Here's wishing all my friends, relatives, colleagues, ex-colleagues, blogger acquaintances, yo stalkers...

Fasting Month is here again ...

Sometimes too much thoughts of food scares me... why do I begin to eat a lot lately? My appetite is really crazy, and yet I don't eat all that much. I just think about food a lot. Like, right now. Sometimes when I feel it's too much, I just skip dinner, and compensate it the morning after with a bit of heavy breakfast. And lately I've been skipping lunch and go full blast on dinner. Some diet plan huh. It's probably work related. But let's not dwell on that...

Do you know it's almost Fasting Month? Starting this Saturday, in fact, even as you're reading this. I'm not telling you, I'm actually telling myself that because I've lost all track of time since coming back from Sabah and my work schedule has been really crazy with lots of catching and following up to do ...

Which is why, like most food lovers with low metabolism rate, I actually look forward to the Fasting Month because believe it or not, it's the best time to exercise healthy eating. What? Are you laughing at my feeble attemptat dieting?

Go ahead, laugh. But I promise you, I'll have the last laugh because you know what? I've been given the honour to attend a Food Tasting at BCCK, which offers one of the best -- and by my standard, I can count how many 'best' on one hand alone yo -- Ramadan Buffet in town. Tada!

A whole group of us from the office were there last year, courtesy of one of our licensee company, who saw fit to treat us to a feast after sealing a good deal. And I can tell you now, it was one heck of a feasting experience! All those rows of food ... the perfectly grilled lamb, the moist steamed chicken, the laksa Sarawak, the pastries, the salad, the choc fondue, and especially the SATAY!! Wait, there's more! Those little individual servings of cocktail dishes, and the ice cream! Sigh ...

What impressed me most was the systematic way BCCK deployed in getting guests properly registered and ushered. I mean, with all those hungry crowd flocking the entrance close to breaking-of-fast time, you've gotta be mentally and professionally prepared for all kinds of drama. You must remember, a good customer service goes a looooong way, which is why, a good first impression always count. Which is also why I can't wait to go indulge myself at their Ramadan Buffet this Saturday! (I heard tell they have extra menu this year... what, I'll have to find out myself soon).

So if you're looking for a Sungkei venue with your family, your colleague, your loved ones, your whoever lah... why not try out BCCK Ramadan Buffet? Affordable and yet more value for money, I say. You've got to taste it for yourself to believe it.

Don't forget to make your reservations! Here's wishing all my Muslim friends:

HAPPY FASTING!!

Gawai holidays ...

Oh lame title.

Anyway, 1st June is officially a public holiday in Sarawak to hail the Gawai Celebration or in those days it was called the Harvest Festival to mark the end of harvesting season and honest native farm folks gather together to say their prayers of thanks to the deity they believed in. However, native folks these days are more of a town people than farm people, and those still taking to the hills or down in the valley to plant padi are a small few. God bless them all. To find out more about the origin and history of Gawai, google it yourself or read more here.

My mom had a huge farm when I was growing up, and me and the siblings helped her in the padi fields more time than I remembered now. Tough days those were, especially in the beginning phase of planting and weeding. And the sun was so hot and cruel especially to a teenager coming home from school and straight to the padi field to help out. No rest. Sometimes I dozed off between the tall stalks when mom wasn't looking. Kids these days don't know what some folks go through to put rice on the table. When I reached 16, thankfully, mom stopped to help dad's church planting ministry. And here I am until today, buying rice from the supermarket like everybody else. Reminiscing.

AND for the good news: since Gawai is normally celebrated 2 days in a row, and 2nd June just happens to fall on a Saturday which coincides with the King's birthday, the following Monday was declared a State holiday. That means, it's a looooong weekend for the exotics and lovelies in the Land of Borneo. Wohoo!

I shall be at home all weekend catching up with the family, and maybe sneak out to get a doze of love from that amazing Caramel Macchiato, and some other friends who are celebrating. Maybe.

Oh! Oh! I was greeted by this lovely exotic crispy native delicacy when I got home today. Batches and batches of them in the canisters and plastic wrappers, gift from some relatives and family friends. Free stuff! Yeay! I'm not sure what it is generally called but to me it's always been known as Kuih Jala (jala as in net).

So here's wishing all the native folks of Sarawak a big
HAPPY GAWAI!

Or as we say it in Bidayuh Biatah:
Siramat Andu Gawai!
in Bidayuh Bau:
Seramat Ondu Gawea!
and in Iban:
Selamat Ari Gawai! Gayu Guru Gerai Nyamai!
(they're the only languages i know how to wish it with)

and to the rest, have a great holiday and a lovely weekend!

Mom's the word...

Mom gave me a black look yesterday. I tried to decode it, but I failed miserably. Usually when this happens, I would go the whole day wondering if I did anything wrong or out of the ordinary that would immediately bring me directly to her radar.

The thing about living in your parents' house is that you have to abide by their rules, which had been set almost the day you started understanding words and could speak your own. Although it doesn't help that there are many set of rules and some rules changed to adapt to further change, you still have to abide by them. Do or die trying.

So if I woke up a little bit late over the weekend, I'd have my bedroom door knocked on a few times. Or the sound of mom raising her voice an octane higher with the usual lecture of "Young girls do not wake up late, you will never marry if you don't get up NOW" or alternate with "In my days if I wake up later than 6am, your grandfather would scream the house down for the entire neighbourhood to hear."Oh that awful threat to reckon with on such ungodly hours.

Or if I come back slightly later than 10pm on a date night, the father would already be waiting at the living room with a scowl, a book in hand giving the impression that he was only there to read, and a few sets of Q&A at the ready. Mom would take her turn with the interrogation come morning... and that usually gave me a sleepless night. I'm guessing the idea was to keep me awake to ponder on my sins.

Or if I overcooked the meat, or put too much savoury stuff in the dish, or left the rice to cook on its own (hey electric cooker what..) I'd have a little talk over what's good for the health and what's not and how people in the older days liked it. And I'd stand with my poker face on, listening like a good girl.

Or if I stacked my laundry till kingdom come and only await for weekend to clear them out, I'd come home from work and realised mom had done them some fine days, because the sight was an eyesore to her. Sometimes she would launch an entire conversation on the wardrobe being a little unfit or unstylish or too plain for a working woman and that I should invest in my hard earned money to try to look better. Sometimes she won't say anything at all about the laundry, just pushed them over to me to fold and keep. Sometimes the gesture said it all.

Or if I come home without bringing any grocery, or basic needful stuffs for home (because sometimes stopping at the supermarket takes extra effort and time) ... I'd get that disappointed look aimed at me. Which I would try to compensate by taking her with me shopping the next few minutes.

But this morning, the black look was still there.

Did I tell you I moved out some time last year? Well not entirely, I have my own place now but I still do come home during the weekend. So this rule thingy and the responsibilities that come with it, and the obligation of being your mom's single daughter, do not quite apply to me anymore. They still do sometimes, but with my express freedom comes that feeling of being able to live without not having to answer a lot to them anymore.

So ... how to decipher the mom look? She's always been the one who understood me, who mediates between the dad and me since childhood, who stood by with a proud look when I got my first period, who waited at home with unshed tears as I showed off my best student trophy, who taught me how to cook my first dish, who patiently showed me how a real kampung-ketupat is weaved, who sat through an entire conversation about a guy who broke my heart and how she would like to see me settle to a good one, who witnessed my complete transformation from girlhood to womanhood with all the support and love any girl would be blessed enough to have.

My mother doesn't speak much. In fact, most of the things I got from her were hints, body languages, signals of the eyes, the hands, the looks. But when she does speak, I just can't help but listen. After all, a daughter usually becomes her mother when she grows up, right? It pays to notice these little gestures.

Anyway... I may not know what that look was, or if I caused it, -- I made the assumption that I did -- so I went to sit beside her at the breakfast table. What is it with breakfast table that always turned me into a child all over again? I sit next to her and I started holding her hand, bumped shoulders playfully like kittens, kissed her on the cheek and wished her Happy Mother's Day. The hot coffee on the breakfast table were a huge help for someone currently revisiting her childhood memories.

She turned to look at me, smiled weakly and said "I'm not feeling well since Thursday. My appetite ... it's horrible. I feel like throwing up all the time." *insert coughs and woebegone face* "I tried to eat but this sensation in my heart, it just couldn't take it. I'm not well..." And only then I noticed the exhausted look, the shadows around her eyes, the weak clutches, and the alarm bell goes on in my head. At the same time, in a flash I remembered where I was on Thursday... I flew in to KL on Wednesday evening, and came back on Thursday evening... without even informing her.

It isn't a coincident. It can't be. But all the same, fighting the thick urgent choking within my throat, and mentally kicking myself hard, I told her of my whereabouts and what I was doing and with whom and why I didn't tell her (cause I expected my sister would tell her) and why I expect to be gone again this week and short of confessing "Oh God mom I didn't commit any sin!" I basically cracked like a roasted can.

And then again she gave me that look that said "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID ..." She got up... and with my dad watching the whole drama... she turned with her coffee cup in hand and blurted out...

"GOTCHA!"

Dude, I swear... mom almost made me faint! Ha ha ha. Dad was laughing all the way to the pulpit.

And after that episode, I told myself, "Woman, you're a smart one. But you will never be smarter than your mama." And so I have strive to always try to catch up with her.

A perfect coffee... I mean, wedding moment

You know, I have resigned myself to the fact that I shall never win any national blogger's award in whatever category because I am such an inconsistent writer, and my best writing ensemble comes when I least expected it. Reading all my other blogger friends and acquaintances, I feel like I'm out of their league. Way out. I'm so randomly laid out that sometimes I wonder how other people can be so passionate about just one subject -- like, fashion or food or photography -- while I have to squeeze my overly-populated brains so hard trying to find something worth even writing about.

See, even calling myself by that nickname doesn't quite justify it because I hardly even talk about coffee. But I love it, that does give it something of value, then? From one coffee junkie to another.

ANYWAY ...

There's something to be said about starting the year right! I had the best times of my life during my sister's wedding 2 weeks ago on 2 January 2012. We never thought she would ever get married, you see, and  frankly, the news of her engagement quite took me by stormy delightful surprise. It has been ages since we had a wedding in the family, so of course it was something to look forward to. Let me tell you, a week after the engagement announcement, the single siblings started scouting for dresses. :-)

Flowers ... Get the picture?

I was so excited for my beloved sister that I initially planned to do a solo number during the special presentation, but after being given enough tasks to put me constantly on stage, I decided to stop with the vanity and pull in my two eligible sisters (one older, one younger) to make a trio.We were one of 5 special performances that wedding morning. Funny how not nervous I was to be on stage dedicating a medley of songs to my sister, thank God for my two other siblings. Oh saya punya suara nothing to shout about, at least we sang in perfect harmony. *For family only bebeh*

Turned out that day that I wasn't the planner at all -- the job being taken over by my eldest married sister because she had more time to deal with it than me -- but some other things all in one: the emergency make-up artist, the amateur photographer, one part of a two-person MC, the substitute guitarist for the praise and worship, one of the usherette, the wedding cake mistress, and well, one third of the wedding singers. All in a day's work. Ironically, if I had been the Bridesmaid, I won't be having as much fun fellow-shipping with the guests and the casts and crews and some other good looking fellers.

You know, weddings do leave a sense of utter vulnerability and eagerness in a person, especially a woman. I was so happy throughout the whole event that I forgot about my single state and the whole drama about avoiding a few certain matchmaking aunties. I made enough jokes about myself on stage that I left no more room for anybody else to be more creative than me! And I may have a little story of my own to tell soon, preceding from that awesome event. No, not what you think.

All in all, a perfect coffee wedding moment.

So with that, I leave you to pick the story at your own pace from these personal but exclusive limited photo collections. Might I add, you wont see my face in here everyday moi.
