Danang's best - Vietnamese iced Coffee ...

I have perhaps discovered the best coffee in the whole wide world. It may not be Starbuck's class, but it is definitely in a class of it's own. Behold the Vietnamese Iced Coffee.

This little delightful discovery was made in Da Nang, Vietnam last year on our annual birthdays cum anniversary family trip out of the country. I mean, I have always known that Vietnam has wonderful coffee, I just didn't have the opportunity to savor and appreciate it back when we visited Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh in 2014 (at the time, 5 months pregnant, no caffeine more than a mug a day).

1 part coffee, 1 part milk. Not just any coffee, specially brewed Vietnamese coffee. And not just any milk, Vietnamese own special condensed milk. Apparently, the milk is part of the secret. I tried using Malaysian owned Susu Cap Junjung, nope, didn't even come close.

Even though it's half-half, the taste is not even sweet, yet just the right bitter-sweet or 'kaw' that I would look for anywhere. Man, I still wish I'm in Danang now where I can have it every morning.
Even my little girl loves it. We had a last cup at the airport on the way back to Malaysia, and Sasa practically drank half of mine. Good girl.
Vietnamese Iced Coffee on the beach, by the pool, anytime anywhere. Oh by the way, this is a really late post. Maybe when Malaysia Airlines fly to Danang someday soon, I'll return here to get my daily dose. Till then. (pictures are strewn here and there ... sorry. Blogging on the go).

Where Borneo Begins...

I have set foot at that very spot -- which according to historians, geographers, surveyors, cartographers, forestry experts etc -- is Where Borneo Begins. This place is located at the remote and idyllic Tanjung Datu, accessible via Sematan in Lundu District. A landmark in the middle of nowhere. Apparently, according to experts, this is the westernmost tip of Sarawak.

Landmark - Where Borneo Begins...

Now to get here, one could either take a one-hour boatride from Sematan Long Jetty passing through the seasides of Kampung Telok Melano and Tanjung Datu National Park, to reach the shore of Tanjung Datu. Or in my case - we took an alternative route which included a 45min drive via the underway Pan Borneo Highway from Sematan town to Kampung Telok Melano, then another 20min boatride from the jetty of Kampung Telok Melano to Tanjung Datu shores.

Boatride to Tanjung Datu via bautiful turquoise open sea...
It was a worktrip, hence the roadtrip. On a sidenote, the Pan Borneo Highway on this side of the highway is progressing rather well, in my opinion.

Pan Borneo Highway in progress...
And to reach that spot, one must hike for at least 15 - 20 mins up a jungle trail. There's no way you can get there without sweating it out a bit. :-) So be prepared to wear at least a comfortable pair of hiking shoes. The trail is not difficult at all, just imagine yourself going into the jungle looking for wild mushrooms or truffles or bamboo shoot. *saya anak kampung so ini macam a walk in the park sajalah =)*

You see... Given, this place has huge tourism potential. And yet, it saddens me that not much has been done to make the place more known to the world. While I might have my doubts about the geographical authenticity, it is only because of how we seem to be treating this national treasure and world landmark. The trees are overgrown and nearly hid the photo-worthy platform while the trails leading to it might as well be trails leading to God knows where. Perhaps they want to maintain its natural state... I however half disagree because there are no proper indications that this is what it is supposed to be "WHERE BORNEO BEGINS". I mean, there's nothing else to see beside that, so it might as well be amazing right?

A memory worth keeping...
We have a lot to learn from our neighbor who has the other Tip of Borneo. But let's leave that aside while I glory in the fact that I have reached Borneo end to end! Wohoo! More on The Tip of Borneo soon.

P/s: We actually wanted to reach the Lighthouse which is a further 15min hike from this spot, the whole point of the work-visit, but that's irrelevant to this post.=)

And with that I declare myself back from blog hiatus! Yay!

Hello ... been missing you Blog!

Nearly June 2017! Almost 6 months from the last entry. But I am making a comeback (said that before didn't I?) and Coffee Girl is back! Didn't realize I miss writing again until I log in to this almost-dusty space.

To sum it up, been pretty busy since February with work stuffs. I thought I could catch a breath in between, apparently not. But it's not necessarily a bad thing, in fact I sort of expected them and thus was mentally prepared.

Got to make a short one today since I'm borrowing a bit of time to stall over an assignment. So here's what I had been up to this week: A short work-related trip down the currently underway Pan Borneo Highway via Sematan to Telok Melano.
With colleagues and peers at the Pan Borneo Highway...

And as for my little girl, she is now 2 years 5 months and has been diaper-free for the last 2 months! Wohoo! More on that later. Last week she had a high fever coupled with coughing and flu, all which made her rather clingy and cranky especially at nights. Whenever people asked me my secret to weight-loss (a bit only lah, all those post-baby fat), I would just answer 'lack of sleep' because I know my diet hasn't change all that much. Yup!

2yo Sasa having her breakfast...

It'll be June soon and a much-needed holiday is coming up! Will be back with more updates! Here's wishing all my Dayak friends and all those celebrating the upcoming festive! SELAMAT HARI GAWAI! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

And to all those looking forward to the upcoming Ramadhan month, SELAMAT BERPUASA!

It's 2017! Helllloooo!

My my how time flies when you're not blogging much anymore. And look it's already 2017! Hello Hello Hello lovelies and Happy New Year You You You and You!

 2017, we are OK!

Gotta say I miss blogging and I must say there has been numerous times in the past few months that I tried to make a comeback but words simply won't come although there are so many things I can blog about. Perhaps I just lost my mojo, or perhaps I forgot how to be readable again, or perhaps I was simply busy. Yes you know, with work, a toddler, a house to keep, work travel etc., pretty much the same stuffs a lot of you are experiencing out there too, except in my case, blogging became neglected and the more I leave it behind, the more rusty I get.

But let's try anyway, okay?

A little update:
1. Celebrated my 3rd wedding anniversary on 14 Dec. Going strong.

2. My baby girl turned 2 on 16 Dec. That made her a toddler now, and as per the airlines, no more an infant, so she is entitled to her own seat, although she kept insisting on sitting in my lap throughout flights in and out. She has now learned to talk and her pronunciation is getting clearer everyday although sometimes she still indulges in her baby talk -- the one where she just open her mouth, speak incoherently rolling her tongue with every word. Cute actually, something I'll miss soon. Her understanding of things also improved a lot.

Briskwalking along Danang's Port Front....

3. Celebrated my birthday on 22 Dec in Danang, Vietnam. Officially a year older and well, age is catching up so there are no time to dilly dally anymore.

Surprise complimentary cake from the hotel in Danang...

4. Yes, we travel to Danang, Vietnam before the Christmas holidays. Fell in love with Vietnamese iced coffee, the best I've ever had ever. I even learned how to make my own while there -- was really so easy. Except here back home, the taste isn't the same. Must be the condensed milk that we use. Danang was a much better city than Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi (I've been to both previously), the food and coffee here is sooooo much nicer. Although in their defence, I was 5 months along when we went to the later 2 cities so my appetite and food adventure were repressed. I'll blog more about Danang soon!

5. Weight loss journey has been coming along slow but surely too. Gaining my pre-baby weight is acceptable, although that is still considered overweight by the BMI calculator. So this year I'm extending the journey to get my ideal weight again (again as in the last time I weight according to my height and gender was like when I was a teenager. Hah.) No strenuous exercise, no complicated calorie counting (suck at those), just a brief effort every day to do something fun and yet calorie burning. Go figure. As long as it takes baby!

2017 is going to be great! I can feel it! So let's move on along and take the year year by storm! Have a good week ahead you you you and you!

Signing off for now,
Coffee Girl
